What is the difference between a TopBuret and a dispenser?

A dispenser, such as the Eppendorf Varispenser, delivers a preset volume. A reciprocating pump is used to draw up the required volume and deliver it at once. This process is particularly suitable for identical volumes which are dispensed frequently. With a TopBuret an unknown volume is delivered. With analytical procedures such as the determination of a pH value or titration, liquid is supplied until the required effect occurs. The quantity of liquid delivered is then read off at the burette. During dispensing the liquid is not delivered from a reservoir but is supplied continuously from the bottle.

Does the display of Top Buret inform users in advance when the battery has to be replaced?

Yes. If the voltage is too low (or if the battery is flat), a battery symbol lights up in top left of the LCD. The battery should then be changed.

What is the difference between Top Buret M and Top Buret H?

The difference is the amount of liquid that can be dispensed by turning the dispensing wheel one revolution. It is possible to dispense 2.5 ml per revolution with Top Buret M, and 5 ml per revolution with Top Buret H.

What is the maximum volume dispensed pro revolution with the Top Buret M and Top Buret H?

The maximum volume per time unit that can be dispensed (limited by the flow resistance) is 1.25 ml/sec for the TopBuret M and 2.5 ml/sec for the TopBuret H, since one revolution should not be faster than 2 sec for reasons of accuracy. 2.5 ml/revolution can be dispensed with the TopBuret M and 5 ml/revolution for the TopBuret H.

Can the telescopic filling tube of the Top Buret be autoclaved?

The device as a whole cannot be autoclaved, but the telescopic filling tube made of fluorocarbon can be autoclaved up to the permitted temperature of 121 °C. It is important not to separate the two parts of the tube for autoclaving and to wait for the tube to cool down completely before inserting it back in the Top Buret.

Is Top Buret supplied with a calibration certificate?

Yes. This certificate is on the back page of the operating manual.

How chemically resistant is the Top Buret?

Can the Top Buret be used for EDTA?

Yes, EDTA solution up to a concentration of 1 mol/L can be used.

How to use an Eppendorf Top Buret bottle-top burette

Adjust the telescopic aspirating tube to your bottle height before attaching the burette to the bottle with the appropriate adapter. Vent the burette by turning the discharge valve toggle to the side, removing the control panel and turning the dispensing wheel forward until all air bubbles have visibly left the system. Turn the discharge valve toggle back to the front, turn the dispensing wheel until liquid comes out of the discharge tube and re-attach the control panel. Press start to start a new titration flow. The burette automatically turns off after a few minutes. Learn more in our tutorial video and by reading the operating manual.
